Cycle on a former railroad line
Only a few meters away from the AVITA Resort is the new railroad bike path. This runs for 42 kilometers from Oberschützen to Rechnitz, almost half of the route runs along a former railroad line. Where trains used to run, a modern and family-friendly bike route has been created, which is gradually being developed into an adventure bike path. Two experience stations already exist: “The forgotten cable car” in Bad Tatzmannsdorf at the old loading station and a 22-meter-long wooden train at the old train station in Hannersdorf.
For the entire route, allow about two hours of pure driving time. However, depending on the speed at which you travel and the breaks you take to explore the places along the bike path, you can spend a whole day on the Bahntrassen-Radweg. Once you arrive at your destination, you can cool off, for example, in the Rechnitz swimming lake, which is idyllically located in the Geschriebenstein Nature Park.
Try out the Burgenland trails
In Rechnitz there is also an entry point to the Burgenland Trails. The Burgenland trails include 40 kilometers of single trails on the Geschriebenstein and are a paradise for those who like it more challenging. Mountain bikers can expect an extensive terrain with four “downhill trails” with numerous variations and different levels of difficulty as well as four “uphill and downhill trails”. Whether you are comfortably on the road with an e-mountain bike or cycling up the hill and whizzing down without electric drive: the natural course with numerous hollow paths, canyons, jumps and flowlines makes every biker’s heart beat faster.
In and around Bad Tatzmannsdorf there are many other cycling routes in addition to the railroad track cycle path, such as the approximately 23 kilometer long “Four Seasons Cycle Path”, which leads past Schlaining Castle, which is steeped in history. By the way: with the Burgenland Card, which you receive at the AVITA Resort from your first overnight stay, you can discover numerous top attractions of southern Burgenland, such as Schlaining Castle, at a reduced price or even for free! m The “Edelserpentin-Radwanderweg” (24 kilometers) with destination Bernstein leads to the highest municipality of Burgenland, where you can visit Bernstein Castle or a rock museum. The name of this cycle path comes from the green shimmering semi-precious stone of precious serpentine, the only place in the world where it can be found is in amber.
