Austria's first snow sauna in the AVITA Thermal Spa
A room full of powdery snow for cooling down after the heat

Ice fountains were yesterday – with the unique snow sauna, you experience cold impulses in a new dimension. In the AVITA Thermal Spa, you can experience snow all year round as of recently. Our thermal spa in South Burgenland is thus the first wellness resort in Austria to have a snow sauna, which gently cools the body down again after the sauna session or infusion. The snow is exclusively produced from water and air and therefore especially cotton-soft powder snow!
Snow is beauty, brightness, tranquillity, emotion. Each flake is a small work of art. The snow room in the Eden Sauna Garden allows for a gentle cool down after the sauna session through its combination of dry cold and soft snow and in this way, restores the body to its normal temperature. The advantage is in careful cooling, therefore without a shock for the organism, in the heart of a pleasant atmosphere. The combination of the heat of the sauna with the dry cold of the snow room has proven to be especially effective and is often perceived more pleasantly than a cold water bath.
In the "Snow Room", temperatures are a constant -5 to -11°C and the ongoing freshly produced snow can be used for additional cooling by rubbing it onto the body.
Snow all year round...
With a temperature of approx. -10°C, the snow sauna offers a gentle and pleasant cool-down after the infusion all year round. The around 15m² snow cave in the AVITA Thermal Spa invites you to linger in the powdery snow and transports you to a freshly snow-covered winter landscape.
Methods according to Dr. med Christian Thuile
Dr Christian Thuile, Director of Complementary Medicine at Meran Hospital in South Tyrol, has developed a method for using brief cold impulses followed by warm-up phases in the best way possible for well-being. With a temperature of approximately -10°C, the snow sauna offers a gentle and pleasant cool-off after the sauna session all year round.
The dry coldness can, among other things, be used with pains in the motor system and joints, sleep disorders, for vascular and muscle training and to strengthen the immune system, and is also especially helpful for those with pollen allergies, rheumatism, and people who have problems with their airways
PHASE 1 - WARM-UP PHASE IN THE SAUNA
Relax with an infusion either sitting or laying down for approximately 12-15 minutes in the steam bath or sauna.
PHASE 2 - COOL-OFF PHASE IN THE SNOW SAUNA
Refresh the lungs through deep breaths and potentially rub snow on painful areas. Whether sitting or standing, it is purely a question of taste. The recommended duration is three to five minutes, but can vary according to physical reaction and frequency of use of the snow room. Bathing shoes on the feet also help to comfortably keep with the recommended duration.
PHASE 3 - RELAXATION PHASE WITH ROOM TEMPERATURE
Relax for 15-20 minutes to give your body time to let the positive effects of the treatment set in. The cycle can be repeated several times. In each case, make sure that you warm up sufficiently and supply yourself with enough fluids.
Positive effects of the sauna on the human body
Along with general well-being (refreshing and revitalising effect) and the aesthetic benefits (skin firming and detoxification), snow wellness – applied properly – also comes with numerous health benefits:
METABOLISM
The stimulation of the metabolism supports fat burning and detoxification.
MUSCLE STIMULATION
The switch from warm and cold speeds up and stimulates muscle work and encourages regeneration after physical exertion or sports activity.
PAIN RELIEF
With chronic muscle and joint pain, the repeated application of snow in alternation with heat provides relief and improved joint mobility.
SLEEP
The stimulation of serotonin production and activation of endorphins promotes deep relaxation and inner peace.
IMMUNE SYSTEM
The temperature alternations strengthens the entire immune system and blood circulation. The dry air is beneficial for the airways and relieves several allergy symptoms.
